Work environment: The MecAPeps project is funded through the “TALENTS” program of the PTL CARLA (“Projet Thématique Long Chimie durAble pouR La sAnté”), Pôle de Recherche Chimie, Université de Montpellier. It will be carried out at the IBMM, Montpellier through a collaboration between three different teams: Glycochimie & Reconnaissance Moléculaire (Sébastien ULRICH), Chimie Verte et Technologies Innovantes (Frédéric LAMATY), and Sciences Analytiques des Biomolécules (Claudia MURACCIOLE BICH).

Main mission: Carry out the synthesis by mechano-chemistry of biomolecular building blocks and the generation of dynamic combinatorial libraries. Set ut and perform analyses to decipher selection and amplification processes, and identify the structure of the self-synthesized products.

Activities: Organic synthesis (solution, ball-mill), purification and analyses (chromatography, HPLC-MS, capillary electrophoresis), characterizations (NMR, mass spectrometry).

Skills/Qualifications

Applicants must have a doctorate in chemistry (or be in the process of obtaining one) before taking up their position. The successful candidate should have expertise in bioorganic chemistry. You will be responsible for managing your own research and administrative activities. This involves small-scale project management, to coordinate multiple aspects of work to meet deadlines. You will test hypotheses and analyze scientific data from a variety of sources, reviewing and refining working hypotheses where appropriate. Beyond this project, you are also expected to apply to MSCA fellowship, ERC starting Grant, and/or University or CNRS permanent positions to leverage opportunities to continue your research.

Required Qualifications/Experience: 

• PhD in organic chemistry 

• In-depth knowledge and practical experience in biomolecular chemistry (synthesis, analysis and characterization) is mandatory, 

• Proven ability to take initiatives and carry out tasks independently, 

• Proven experience in project management 

• In-depth knowledge of scientific writing and technical reports 

• Team player with excellent communication skills and fluent in French and English.
