The hosting structure

The Curie Institute Research Center

The Institut Curie is a major player in the research and fight against cancer. It consists of a hospital and a Research Center of more than 1000 employees with a strong international representativeness.

The objective of the Curie Institute Research Center is to develop basic research and to use the knowledge produced to improve the diagnosis, prognosis, and therapeutics of cancers as part of the continuum between basic research and innovation serving the patient.

Context

Laboratory

Claire Rougeulle’s team “Sex Chromosomes, Development and Diseases” belongs to the UMR3244 which aims at elucidating mechanisms fundamental to genome integrity and regulation. The lab is located on the historical site of the Institut Curie in the vibrant student district in the heart of Paris. The Rougeulle team studies the emblematic process of X-chromosome inactivation in human and non-human primates. It is a highly dynamic, international group currently including a master student, 2 PhD students, 1 post-doc, 2 engineers and 2 staff scientists. In addition to in-house scientific and technical skills provided by team members, the post-doctoral fellow will benefit from the stimulating and collaborative environment of the Institut Curie Research Center and from its cutting-edge technological platforms.

Project

Through an ANR-funded project, the post-doctoral fellow will investigate the regulation of X-chromosome inactivation during early female development. This project exploits state of the art cellular models including human embryonic stem cells, human extra-embryonic cells and 3D blastoids that mimic the very first stages of development. This project will involve high throughput CRISPR-based screens, imaging and large-scale sequencing approaches. This research is expected to yield significant results in the field of human peri-implantation development and fertility.
