Work environment :

The objectives of the IMM project are to develop a new versatile interactive mobile manipulator robot, capable of navigating both indoors and outdoors for industrial and agricultural applications, while ensuring its successful integration into society. These two goals—technological and societal—will progress hand in hand throughout the project, thanks to an iterative process involving regular and reciprocal exchanges between roboticists and researchers in the humanities and social sciences.

To this end, we have established an interdisciplinary consortium covering a wide range of research fields, including robotics, sociology, ergonomics, communication sciences, and anthropology.

From a methodological standpoint, we will begin our studies using existing platforms developed over the past decade in France, which have proven their efficiency and robustness in near-ecological situations. We will then gradually transfer the knowledge gained—both technological and societal—to the new IMM system, which will demonstrate the project’s results at the end of the 96-month period.


Main Mission :

The main mission of the recruited researcher will be to manage the integration of the solutions developed by the various partners of the PI2 Project onto the UM mobile manipulator. The role will also involve the development and integration of an Art and Robotics piece, created as part of the PEPR O2R initiative within the context of PI2. This work will be carried out at LIRMM in collaboration with a researcher specialized in design for robotics.

Indeed, one of the main objectives of this project is to develop an innovative, versatile, and robust interactive mobile manipulator that incorporates the expertise of leading researchers from the French robotics community. To achieve this ambitious goal, we will structure the integration of each laboratory’s contributions from the outset of the project.


Activities :

The tasks to be carried out will include programming the mobile manipulator platform for the controlled deformation of flexible objects, as well as developing a teleoperation interface for remote object deformation.

These contributions will be implemented in C/C++ or Python, most likely using the ROS2 middleware.


Contract duration : 12 months


Salary : 2,200€ per month
