The University of Trás-os-Montes and Alto Douro (UTAD) opens a call for one (1) Post-doctoral Research Grant, in the frame of the R&D project TRANSFOrm - Back to the future: Traditional agroforestry systems as NbS to face multiple societal challenges, with the financial support of FCT – Portuguese Foundation for Science and Technology, I.P. in the context of the project BiodivNBS/0018/2023.

Admission requirements:

1. Hold a PhD completed within the last three years in the areas of Social Sciences, Economics or Management*;
2. Have proven advanced skills in the design, planning, implementation, organisation and analysis of data resulting from the application of participatory and deliberative approaches, such as participatory methods and approaches with various stakeholders and interested parties, including: Design Thinking Method; Scenario co-creation techniques; Cognitive maps; Content analysis techniques applied to interviews, documents and digital social networks*;
3. Advanced scientific writing, including mastery of tools and technologies to support systematic literature reviews, as evidenced in publications*;
4. Capacity for interdisciplinary integration, with the ability to extract, systematise and analyse empirical data from different ontologies, approaches and methods;
5. Scientific ambition, with an interest in developing innovative conceptual and analytical frameworks geared towards advancing methods and tools in the context of transformative sustainable transitions;
6. Fluency in spoken and written English*;
7. Proactivity and results orientation;
8. Aptitude for collaborative work in international interdisciplinary teams;
9. Postdoctoral research carried out at a host institution other than the institution where the research work leading to the award of the doctoral degree was carried out*;
10. Comply with the provisions of the FCT Research Grant Regulations (RBI No. 950/2019), namely those set out in Article 7*;

Work plan:

The candidate will carry out R&D activities within the scope of the TRANSFOrm - project, namely:

1) Contribute to the development of a conceptual analysis framework based on Change Theory to identify factors that facilitate and hinder transformative transitions and co-create transition pathways capable of promoting sustainable traditional orchards (including chestnut groves) at the landscape scale;

2) Contribute to the design, planning, implementation, organisation and analysis of data resulting from the application of participatory and deliberative approaches, which will be implemented at case study level in several European countries;

3) Implement, collect, organise and analyse data relating to the case chosen in Portugal, the chestnut groves in Trás-os-Montes and Alto Douro;

4) Lead and/or participate in the design and scientific writing of scientific articles;

5) Contribute to other project tasks, supporting the mapping of stakeholders, ecosystem services and their valuation, data organisation and management, as well as the dissemination of the project and its results;

6) Actively participate with the UTAD team in preparing contributions to deliverables and other deliverables planned for the project.

Workplace:

The work will be developed at the CETRAD- Centre for Transdisciplinary Development Studies of the University of Trás-os-Montes and Alto Douro, under the scientific guidance of Professor Lívia Madureira.

Duration of scholarship:

The fellowship will last for 12 months, expected to start in October/November 2025. The scholarship contract may be renewed, under the terms of the FCT Research Grant Regulation (no. 950/2019).

Monthly maintenance allowance amount:

The scholarship amount corresponds to 1.851,00€ according to the table of scholarships awarded directly by the FCT, I.P. in the country (https://www.fct.pt/apoios/bolsas/valores). The period of payment of the scholarship is monthly and through bank deposit, check or another equivalent method.

Selection Methods:

The selection methods to be used are as follows:

• Curriculum assessment focusing on the skills required by the call for applications: 70%
• Experience in an R&D environment in the skills required by the call for applications: 30%.

Form of advertising/notification of results:

The final results of the evaluation will be publicized through a ranked list posted on the UTAD Campus Online Page (http://www.campus.utad.pt/bolsasinvestigacao/candidaturas ), with the candidate being approved notified via email.

Based on the final ranking list, a reserve list will be drawn up, valid for the maximum duration of the project funding this grant or the maximum duration of the grant provided for in Article 3rd , nº 2, of the Statute of Scientific Research Fellow, Law no. 40/2004, of 18th August, revised by Decree-Law no. 123/2019, of 28th August (whichever comes first), which will be used for the possible recruitment of new grant holders within the scope of this project or in the event of the first-placed candidate withdrawing. If none of the candidates demonstrates that they have the profile indicated to carry out the work plan, the jury reserves the right not to award the scholarship to the competition.

If the decision to be taken is unfavourable to the granting of the requested scholarship, the candidates have a period of 10 working days, after the aforementioned disclosure, to express their opinion, if desired, in a prior hearing, under the terms provided for in the Code of Administrative Procedure.
