The post-doctorate is part of the interdisciplinary research project ‘MEDITER’ (Mesurer l'Efficacité du Droit. Impacts et Temporalités des Énergies Renouvelables), funded by the French environmental agency ADEME. It will be supervised by Pierrick CHALAYE, environmental and energy sociologist (University of Toulouse 2 Jean Jaurès), Jessica MAKOWIAK, environmental lawyer (University of Limoges, scientific coordinator) and Leny PATINAUX, political scientist (University of Limoges).

The main objective of this post-doctorate is to analyse the practices and discourses of environmental assessment in the context of the accelerated development of renewable energies, as well as the material and organisational constraints that weigh on the environmental assessment processes from the point of view of the actors who implement them in the investigating departments and in specific territories. To document these elements, the post-doctorate will use several case studies of renewable energy projects in the Millevaches and Périgord-Limousin Regional Nature Parks (PNR), in France.

Main tasks
1. A review of the social sciences literature on environmental assessment with a particular focus on energy infrastructures (including renewable energy production facilities).
2. A localised study of how environmental issues are taken into account in the implementation of renewable energy projects in the Millevaches and Périgord-Limousin RNPs, based on ethnographic observations and interviews with various stakeholders (members of environmental organizations, agents of the State's investigating departments, project developers, etc.).
3. Active participation in scientific and educational events (such as working groups and workshops) organised as part of the project and in connection with the assigned tasks.

In addition to these 3 main tasks, one of the following two additional tasks will be added (to be determined with the successful candidate):
4. Interviews and, if necessary, observation of the administrative evaluation of projects, with a focus on the regional environmental authority missions (MRAe).
