A five-month postdoctoral position is available in the team of Maryse Lebrun at the Laboratory of Parasite Host and Immunity (Montpellier, France). The Lebrun laboratory investigates the molecular strategies utilized by Apicomplexan protozoan parasites, including Plasmodium (malaria) and Toxoplasma (toxoplasmosis), to invade and thrive within their host cells.

The group has recently identified the first molecular factors mediating secretion from rhoptries—specialized secretory organelles that discharge their contents upon parasite contact with host cells. Rhoptry proteins are injected directly into the cytoplasm, facilitating parasite attachment, host cell invasion, and the creation of a permissive intracellular niche supporting parasite survival and proliferation.

The successful candidate will contribute to the characterization of the rhoptry secretion machinery. Specifically, the project will focus on elucidating the signaling pathways that orchestrate its activation. The postdoctoral fellow will employ molecular genetics and biochemical approaches to investigate key molecules implicated in these pathways.

The position offers an opportunity to join a highly interactive and collaborative team, engaged in a multidisciplinary project supported by an ERC Advanced Grant.

The LPHI lab is located on the campus of the University of Montpellier, which provides a state-of-the-art environment for biophysics, biochemistry, and imaging including EM, and also including biosafety level 2 flow cytometry and live imaging facilities.
