Job position

Object: The project “Tackling Conspiracy theories by fostering resilience and self-efficacy of democracy” (TaCT-FoRSED), funded by the European Commission's Horizon Europe programme under the call DEMOCRACY-01-04 (code SUMMA EA620434), aims to study conspiracy theories, understand how belief in these theories may be affecting the growing erosion of democratic institutions, and investigate potential ways to combat the spread of conspiracy theories and their negative consequences.

Marc Guinjoan and Carol Galais (UAB) are the principal investigators of Work Package 1 (WP1) of the European project.
This part of the project is related to the generation of opinion data and empirical analyses. For this purpose, an online survey will be conducted in 15 countries and systematic data on conspiracies will be compiled. The project will combine the use of observational and experimental methods.

Duties: Postdoctoral Researcher in the TaCT-FoRSEED Project on Conspiracy Theories. The project focuses on how conspiracy theories may be contributing to the growing erosion of democratic institutions and explores pathways for prevention.

The selected candidate will collaborate with the two principal investigators of the project on the following tasks:

- Supporting the final design of a comparative survey across 15 countries
- Discussing and designing experiments to be included in the project's comparative survey
- Pre-registering the experiments
- Managing ethics committee approvals at UAB related to the experiments
- Coordinating proposals and suggestions from other members of the TaCT-FoRSEED project
- Collaborating with the project’s research assistant and the PIs in reviewing translations of the final survey, checking final versions provided by the survey company, and supervising fieldwork
- Analysing the survey results
- Participating, together with the project’s PIs, in the various research articles that will be developed using the project’s data

- Presenting research findings at local and European conferences
- Attending, when necessary, the project’s regular meetings
- Publishing research in relevant international journals

Job position requirements (skills/languages/required experience)

Education [Mandatory]: PhD in Political Science, Sociology, Psychology, or a related field.

Technical Skills [Desirable / Will be valued]: The candidate must have advanced knowledge of quantitative analysis techniques, specifically in the analysis of political attitudes using survey data.
Proficiency in statistical software such as STATA and/or R is required.

Languages: Fluent English.

Professional Experience: Experience in research and/or participation in projects related to the themes of the TaCTFoRSEED project will be valued, including survey data analysis or political psychology.
Prior experience in designing survey experiments will also be positively evaluated.
Demonstrated ability to publish academic articles in political science, sociology, or psychology will be considered.

Annual Gross Salary: 35.681,40€

Selection process

Selection Criteria and Evaluation (out of 100 points).

The following criteria will be used to evaluate candidates:

- Curriculum Vitae (including academic record) – 40 points
- Experience in topics related to the TaCT-FoRSEED project, including analysis of political attitudes using survey data or political psychology – 10 points
- Experience in designing and/or analysing survey experiments – 10 points
- Motivation letter – 20 points

- Interview (for candidates who reach the final stage) – 20 points

Candidates must obtain a minimum of 60 points to pass the selection process.
After the curricular evaluation, a limited number of candidates will be selected to participate in an online interview with the principal investigators of the project.
