A call is now open for the award of one Postdoctoral Research Fellowship within the scope of the project EUROGIA2030 MoreWood – Increasing Wood Amount with Wood Based Panels Sustainable Sourced and Recyclable Structural Elements for Green and Zero Emission Buildings, reference EU2030-19-2, nationally funded by Agência de Inovação (ANI) under the reference “COMPETE2030-FEDER-00365700, operation no. 12706”, at the NOVASchool of Science and Technology (NOVA FCT), under the following conditions:

  1. Scientific Area: Civil Engineering and related fields


  1. Admission requirements: In order to be considered eligible, applicants must meet the following mandatory requirements:
  • Hold a PhD degree in Civil Engineering, Materials Engineering, Environmental Engineering, Architecture, Conservation and Restoration, or related fields, obtained within the three years prior to the application submission date, from an institution other than the host institution of the postdoctoral research fellowship.
  • Applicants who obtained their degree abroad must have it recognised in Portugal, pursuant to Decree-Law no. 66/2018 of 16 August. Supporting documents must be submitted no later than the contracting stage and may, until that time, be replaced by a sworn statement (as provided in the template at the end of this Call).
  • Demonstrate strong teamwork skills, the ability to meet deadlines and the capacity to work independently.
  • Demonstrate proficiency in Portuguese and/or English (both spoken and written).
  • Demonstrate expertise and scientific publications in areas related to the characterisation and development of construction materials and products, contribution to occupants’ comfort and health, and building energy efficiency.


  1. Work plan: The work plan consists of actively and independently contributing to the development and implementation of the research and dissemination activities of the MoreWood project at NOVA FCT, namely:
  • Structuring, developing and supervising experimental campaigns for the characterisation of tannin-based thermal insulation, panels based on agroforestry residues, recycled polypropylene composites with biomass, and hygrothermal numerical simulation of buildings using such materials.
  • Analysis of experimental data and preparation of technical reports and scientific publications.


  1. Applicable legislation and regulations:

This call is governed by Law no. 40/2004 of 18 August (Statute of the Research Fellowship Holder), as amended, and by the Regulation of Research Fellowships of NOVA University of Lisbon (Decision no. 9484/2023).


  1. Workplace: The work will be carried out mainly at the Department of Civil Engineering of NOVA FCT, under the scientific supervision of Professor Paulina Faria, PhD.


  1. Duration of the fellowship: The fellowship will have a duration of 3 months, with an expected start date of 1st of February, 2026. The fellowship contract may be renewed within the duration of the project, which is expected to end in October, 2026.


  1. Monthly maintenance allowance: The fellowship amount is €1,851.00, in accordance with the table of values for fellowships directly awarded by FCT, I.P., and will be paid monthly by bank transfer.


  1. Selection methods:

Applications will be assessed and ranked based on the following criteria:

  • Scientific qualifications and merit demonstrated in the CV;
  • Motivation letter;
  • Interview, if deemed necessary by the jury.

In all cases, the suitability of the applicant’s profile for the functions and activities to be performed will be considered. Applications that do not include all required elements will be automatically excluded. NOVA FCT reserves the right not to proceed with recruitment in the absence of a suitable candidate.


The evaluation phases, criteria and respective weightings are as follows:

A) Scientific Qualifications and Merit (80%)

B) Motivation Letter (20%)

C) An interview may be conducted with the top-ranked candidates. In that case, the interview will carry a weighting of 20% in the final evaluation, with the remaining components weighted at 70% and 10%, respectively.


  1. Composition of the Selection Jury:

The jury is composed of the following members, all from the NOVA School of Science and Technology of NOVA:

Chair – Professor Paulina Faria, PhD, Associate Professor

1st full member – Professor Luís Baltazar, PhD, Associate Professor

2nd full member – Professor Guilherme Coelho, PhD, Assistant Professor

1st alternate member – Professor Ana Luísa Fernando, PhD, Associate Professor

2nd alternate member – Professor Margarida Gonçalves, PhD, Associate Professor


  1. Publication / notification of results:

The evaluation results will be communicated in writing to the candidates within 60 working days after the application deadline, by e-mail, including access to the respective jury minutes.

If the result is unfavourable to the granting of the fellowship, candidates shall have 10 working days to submit a prior hearing statement, in accordance with the Portuguese Code of Administrative Procedure.

The final decision will be taken within a maximum of 5 working days after the end of the prior hearing period and will again be notified to all candidates by e-mail.

Under the Regulation of Research Fellowships of NOVA University of Lisbon (Decision no. 9484/2023), a complaint or appeal may also be submitted within 10 working days after notification of the final results, addressed to drh.bolsas@fct.unl.pt.

  1. Application period and submission procedure:

The call is open from 24th of November to 8th of December, 2025.

Applications must be submitted exclusively by e-mail, indicating in the subject line the reference “Post-Doc MoreWood”, to drh.bolsas@fct.unl.pt, within the application deadline.

The application must include the following documents:

  1. Curriculum Vitae with links to publications,
  2. Motivation letter (maximum one page),
  3. Degree certificate (or proof of completion of the degree) and, where applicable, recognition of the degree in Portugal (as stated in the Admission Requirements), without prejudice to the submission of the diploma or recognition at the contracting stage, being replaced at the application stage by a sworn statement confirming that the documents will be submitted in due time.
  4. Any other documentation demonstrating compliance with the “Admission Requirements”.
