The Institute of Mechanical Engineering – IDMEC is opening a call for

Post-Doctoral Research Fellowships

Applications are open for 1 post-doctoral research fellowship, within the framework of project YOUTH4MOBILITY, (DUT/0002/2024), financed by national funds (OE) through FCT.IP, under the following conditions:

Admission Requirements:

Post-Doctoral Research Fellowships

1. 1. to hold a PhD degree obtained in the 3 years previously to the submission of the fellowship application;
2. 2. to have carried out the research work that led to the PhD degree in a different entity from the host institution of the fellowship;
3. 3. Not to exceed, with this fellowship contract, including the possible renovations, an accumulated period of 3 years in this type of fellowship, continuously or with interruptions;
4. 4. Not to have previously held a post-doctoral fellowship from IDMEC.

Academic degrees obtained in foreign countries shall be registered by a Portuguese institution, according to the Decree-Law nr. 66/2018, of August, 16th, and the Ordinance nr. 33/2019, of January, 25th. Workplan and the objectives to achieve:

Develop statistical models, instruments and methods for the assessment of the mobility system and the educational system, namely in school commuting. Collect and analyse quantitative and qualitative data and information, from surveys, interviews and focus groups.

Workplace: The work will be developed at IDMEC - Institute of Mechanical Engineering, being both the Host and Contracting Entity, and under the scientific supervision of Professor António Ramos Andrade.

Duration: The research fellowship will have the duration of 12 months. It’s expected to begin in January 2026, and may be eventually renewed up to the maximum stated by the law or the end of the project.

Monthly maintenance allowance: According to the values for Research Fellowships awarded by FCT in Portugal (https://www.fct.pt/fct-atualizou-o-valor-das-bolsas-para-2025/),the amount of the monthly maintenance allowance is € 1851, being the payment method by Wire Transfer.

Selection methods: The selection methods will be the following: i) Curriculum evaluation, ii) experience in quantitative and qualitative modelling, with the respective weight of 60% and 40%.

Composition of the selection Jury: Professor António Andrade (president), Professor Jorge Ambrósio, Professor Virgínia Infante.

Announcement/ notification of the results: The final evaluation results will communicated to all applicants by email.

After be notified, candidates have 10 working days to submit a formal rebuttal, by email.

Application deadline and formalization: The call is open in the period between 26th november and 11th december, until 18:00, 2025.

Post-Doctoral Research Fellowships

It is mandatory to formalize applications with the submission of the following documents: Curriculum Vitae; academic degree certificate; motivation letter; declaration on honour that the applicant does not exceed with this contract an accumulated period of three years in this type of fellowship, continuously or with interruptions, within the technological and scientific system, and that the research work that led to the PhD degree was carried out in a different entity from the host institution of the fellowship.
