Position Summary

Applications are invited for the post of post-doctoral researcher/senior post-doctoral researcher to work within the Offshore Renewable Energy Research Group in MaREI (https://www.ucc.ie/en/ore/). The Offshore Renewable Energy Research Group, based in the MaREI Centre and part of the Sustainability Institute at University College Cork, is a focused group of researchers led by Dr Jimmy Murphy, who researches ORE industry needs from technology development to logistics and LCOE modelling. It is a dynamic team that meets the challenges of the ORE sector by developing specialized tools, creating data sets and assisting in technology development.

The successful candidate will take a leading role in UCC’s participation in the Interreg Atlantic Area funded AOFFTECH project. AOFFTECH aims to contribute to decarbonisation, mitigate climate change and increase the EU’s energy independence through advancement of the floating offshore wind sector. The project will focus on fostering knowledge exchange on floating offshore wind technologies, ensuring the sustainable development of floating wind, and building a digital offshore wind ecosystem in the Atlantic Area to support the deployment of floating offshore wind. The AOFFTECH consortium is led by Asime (Spain) and consists of several partners throughout the European Atlantic Area, including the Marine Institute (Ireland), PLOCAN (Spain), Universidade da Coruna (Spain), Adene (Portugal), Norwegian Offshore Wind (Norway), and University of Nantes (France).

The successful applicant will be involved in a range of activities across the project relating primarily to governance and stakeholder engagement, but also potentially data analysis and device testing at the Lir NOTF. The successful applicant will work under the supervision of Dr Frances Judge and Dr. Jimmy Murphy in the School of Engineering and will be a member of the Offshore Renewable Energy Research Group in UCC.

The ideal candidate: The ideal candidate will hold a PhD in offshore renewable energy or a related discipline, and will be a versatile individual, with good technical as well as general research skills.

Working location: The successful applicant will be based in the MaREI Centre, at the Beaufort Building, Ringaskiddy, Co. Cork.

Achievement of the expected progression within Post Doc and Senior Post Doc is transferable between the Irish HEI’s. This can be reflected in the starting pay of a PD researcher. Similarly, as the PD scheme is an intergenerational training scheme completion of PD1 or PD 2 levels in one HEI will normally render that researcher ineligible for appointment at a similar level in another Irish HEIResearcher Career Development Framework | Irish Universities Association
