We invite applications for the prestigious Newton International Fellowship (https://royalsociety.org/grants/newton-international/) in the field of Geotechnical Engineering. Candidates with expertise and a strong research interest in the following areas are highly encouraged to apply:

• • Offshore Geotechnics: Addressing challenges in foundation and anchor design for renewable energy infrastructures such as floating offshore wind turbines.
• • Slope Stability and Analysis: Investigating the effects of spatial variability, rainfall, and external loading on slope stability through numerical modelling, physical testing, or probabilistic approaches.
• • Machine Learning in Geotechnical Engineering: Utilising data-driven approaches to model and predict soil-structure interactions or other complex geotechnical problems.
• • Reliability-Based/Probabilistic Geotechnical Analysis: Developing methods to incorporate uncertainty and variability in geotechnical design, ensuring safer and more economical solutions.

The selected candidate will join a dynamic research group located at University of Dundee under the supervision of Dr Pengpeng He (https://discovery.dundee.ac.uk/en/persons/pengpeng-he) and Prof Mike Brown (https://discovery.dundee.ac.uk/en/persons/michael-brown). This position offers a unique opportunity to conduct high-impact research and develop interdisciplinary collaborations in a supportive academic environment.

Eligibility:

Applicants must meet all the eligibility criteria for the Newton International Fellowship (https://royalsociety.org/grants/newton-international/). Some specific ones are:

• • A PhD or nearing completion of a PhD, with the degree to be awarded before the fellowship start date.
• • No more than seven years of active full-time postdoctoral experience (career breaks will be considered).
• • Applicants must be working outside the UK and should not hold UK citizenship at the time of application.
• • Proficiency in both written and spoken English.

Fellowship Details:

• • Application deadline: 11 March 2026.
• • Duration: Two years, commencing by March 2027.
• • Funding: Up to £280,000, covering salary, research expenses, and relocation/visa costs.
