Applications are invited from suitably qualified candidates for a full-time, fixed term position as a Research Fellow with the Centre for Health Research Methodology at the University of Galway, Ireland.

This position is funded by Centre for Health Research Methodology and is available from 2nd March 2026for 24 months (with potential extension subject to funding).

CENTRE AND PROGRAMME CONTEXT

The Centre for Health Research Methodology (CHRM; see www.CHRM.ie) at the University of Galway is a research methods centre focused on strengthening the design, conduct, reporting, and use of health research to support better decision-making. CHRM provides an applied, collaborative environment for evidence synthesis and related methods, with an active programme of training and engagement activities. Evidence Synthesis Ireland (ESI) sits within this methods environment and works with national and international partners to deliver decision-focused evidence syntheses and to strengthen capacity and standards in evidence synthesis.

Within this setting, ESI is establishing the Evidence Synthesis Hub for Emerging Health Threats Ireland (the Hub) on behalf of the Department of Health (Office of the Chief Medical Officer). The Hub will serve as a national one-stop capability for synthesising evidence on major health threats, adopting a One Health, all-hazards perspective that spans pandemics, epidemics, infectious hazards, antimicrobial resistance, novel pathogens, and cross-cutting behavioural, scientific, and health system challenges.

Salary: Research Fellow salary scale €65,889 - €86,014 per annum, (subject to the project’s funding limitations), and pro rata for shorter and/or part-time contracts.

The default position for all new public sector appointments is the 1st point of the salary scale. This may be reviewed, and consideration afforded to appointment at a higher point on the payscale (subject to the project’s funding limitations), where evidence of prior years’ equivalent experience is accepted in determining placement on the scale above point 1, subject to the maximum of the scale.
