The ERC-funded project LiTeRA – Linguistic Texts of Roman Antiquity (https://litera.gitpages.huma-num.fr/litera/#/) is inviting applications for a 1-year postdoctoral contract to investigate Latin fragmentary grammatical texts (3rd century BC – 3rd century AD).

As a member of LiTeRA and the Rome et ses renaissances research group, the successful candidate will be based in Paris, will work under the supervision of the Principal Investigator of the project (Prof. Alessandro Garcea), and will also benefit from Sorbonne’s academic environment.


Duration: 12 months


Tasks and Responsibilities:

- Primary editorial responsibility for fragmentary grammatical material from the Republican period

- Preparation of critically established texts and critical apparatus

- Cross-review of fragments edited by other postdoctoral editors

- Where relevant, contribution to translation and commentary

- Participation in editorial seminars and internal peer-review processes

Skills/Qualifications

Profile:

The successful candidate will have a strong background in Latin philology and Roman linguistic thought, with particular expertise in early Republican literature, as well as fragmentary sources.

Specific Requirements

  • - PhD in Latin language and literature or Classical Philology
  • - Demonstrated experience with fragmentary texts
  • - Familiarity with manuscript traditions and critical apparatus
  • - Ability to work collaboratively in a multi-editor project
  • - Excellent command of English and/or French; knowledge of other modern languages commonly used in the field is an asset.
