We invite applications for a Postdoctoral Research Fellow position in AI driven protein design and experimental validation available at the Department of Biosciences.
The project will be at the Center for integrative neuroplasticity (CINPLA), an interdisciplinary research group spanning neuroscience, physics and computational science. CINPLA addresses fundamental questions related to learning and neural network dynamics in the healthy and diseased brain and in artificial intelligence systems. This project is focusing on developing novel gene therapy treatment strategies for brain diseases. Gene therapy offers novel opportunities to cure currently un-treatable diseases. However, inefficient gene delivery to the brain and reliable methods to design and modify potential therapeutic proteins represent fundamental hurdles to progress. There is a need for novel AI-driven methods for capsid- and protein design and in silico validation intimately connected to experimental validation. In this project, you will develop machine learning methods and apply them in an interdisciplinary environment spanning physics, neuroscience and computational science. You will be expected to participate in both computational and experimental activities.
This postdoctoral research project will focus on reinforcement learning methods for generating complex structures for generation of virus capsids and therapeutic proteins for gene therapy. The project will involve both physics-based forward modeling of protein structures and reinforcement learning methods for optimizing the structures. The outcome from the models will be tested in experimental setups requiring deep understanding of protein chemistry and molecular biology.
