I Job description

This recruitment is conducted as part of the implementation of the G4PL – Genomics for Poland (FENG.02.04-IP.04-0007/25-00), co-funded under the European Funds for Smart Economy 2021-2027 (FENG), Action 2.4 Smart Economy Research Infrastructure. The goal of the project is to build a nationwide infrastructure for genomic research, including a network of laboratories conducting research and providing services in the field of genome sequencing, new data analysis tools, and a central genomic data repository. Within the project's framework, it is also planned to obtain and sequence new DNA sample collections from residents of Poland, including patients with rare diseases (a total of 6-7 thousand samples).


The project is implemented by a consortium of 12 entities, with the Institute of Bioorganic Chemistry of the Polish Academy of Sciences (PAS) in Poznań acting as the leader. We are seeking an ambitious individual to join the Laboratory of Genomics IBCH PAS and engage in the work of the G4PL project team, related to the analysis of genomic data collected within the G4PL project and other data at the disposal of IBCH PAS. The main tasks in this area of the project involve: processing data from next-generation sequencing (mainly the Illumina platform), third-generation sequencing (long reads, PacBio, Nanopore platforms), and optical genome mapping. An individual will also be involved in work related to the development of data analysis software and databases. We expect a creative contribution to the implementation of project tasks, supported by ongoing literature monitoring, review of available methods and IT tools, and the use of external databases. It is essential to maintain detailed documentation of the analysis process and the results, and to prepare it for reports and publications.


Benefits

Salary of 15,000 PLN (total employment cost, including seniority allowance).


II Job responsibilities

  1. NGS data analysis, from raw data processing to complex integrative analyses, including short-read (mainly Illumina) and long-read (various technologies) sequencing data analysis.
  2. Integration of data acquired through various technologies.
  3. Data analysis using population genomics methods.
  4. Development of tools and databases.
  5. Implementing skills acquired during training into ongoing project tasks.
  6. Visualization and interpretation of the results of performed analyses.
  7. Active participation in project meetings.
  8. Participation in the preparation of reports, result presentations, and publications.


III Job requirements

  1. PhD degree in biological sciences, biotechnology, computer science, medical sciences, or related fields.
  2. Experience in bioinformatics, genetics, and genomics, documented by publications.
  3. Experience in working with large datasets.
  4. Experience in next-generation sequencing (NGS) data analysis.
  5. Recommended knowledge of machine virtualization/containerization platforms and the ability to run tasks using the SLURM queuing system.
  6. Proficiency in basic programming languages (Python, R, Bash scripting).
  7. Knowledge of tools for genetic variant analysis.
  8. Knowledge of statistics (statistical tests in biology and genetics, multivariate analyses).
  9. Knowledge of methods used in population genomics (including PCA, Admixture/Structure, GWAS, Linkage Disequilibrium (LD), Identity By Descent (IBD), FST statistics) will be an additional asset.
  10. Ability to maintain detailed and reliable documentation of the work process (scripts, reports, preparation and visualization of results for publication).
  11. Proficiency in English at a level enabling effective communication in an international team, analysis of scientific literature, and preparation of publications and reports.
  12. Ability to work independently, manage multiple tasks simultaneously, and contribute to collaborative projects.
