Main mission :

The use of veterinary products such as ivermectin, deltamethrin, or other xenobiotics in mammals (particularly in the context of care, reintroduction, or population management) can affect arthropod communities—especially dung beetles and other coprophagous species—through contamination of feces and the environment. These impacts, well-documented in livestock, remain largely unknown in wild mammal populations.

The “Dung Beetles” working group led by Camila LEANDRO at CEFE is offering a postdoctoral position to assess and better understand these effects by combining international surveys, knowledge syntheses, data analyses, and proposals for management recommendations grounded in ecology and conservation. The postdoctoral researcher will collaborate with four other researchers also working on this topic.

Scientific Objectives of the Project

The overall objective is to assess the ecotoxicological risks of veterinary products in wild mammals with regard to:

- Arthropod communities, with a focus on dung beetles and other coprophagous species, on a global scale;

- The influence of veterinary management practices and their variation by taxon or continent.

To achieve these objectives, the postdoctoral researcher will conduct:

International surveys of zoos (veterinary care, medications used, frequency, volumes

Activities :

Design and implement structured surveys (questionnaires, interviews, databases).

Compile and analyze responses across a wide geographic and taxonomic range.

Participate in international meetings with conservation networks (SSC/IUCN, de-wilding, professional zoo associations).

Write scientific reports, summary notes for managers, and articles for peer-reviewed journals.

Produce scientific and public outreach materials (posters, slides, presentations, fact sheets).

The net monthly salary is €2,200

The contract duration is 9 months
