A recruitment and selection process is open, intending to hire one Senior Technician within the framework of the “ ASAS - Alimentação Saudável, Apelativa e Saborosa” project, reference DGS-S-25-27-1 at the Institute of Public Health of the University of Porto, funded by the Directorate-General of Health.
Application period: 19 March to 01 April, 2026
1.Applicable legislation
Under the terms of the Código do Trabalho, approved by Lei 7/2009, of 12 February, it is hereby announced that a recruitment and selection process has been opened for the recruitment of a Senior Technician under an individual employment contract under private law, for an indefinite term, during the term of the aforementioned project, for the Institute of Public Health of the University of Porto.
The remuneration will be framed within the salary level corresponding to the first position in the professional category of Senior Technician in the Single Salary Table, corresponding to salary level 16, plus the meal allowance.
2. Admission requirements
All individuals of legal age, with the following mandatory requirements, may apply:
a) Bachelor’s degree in nutrition sciences or related fields;
b) Registration with the Order of Nutritionists as a full member by the date of signing the contract.
If the degree has been obtained in a higher education institution outside Portugal, it needs to be recognized by a Portuguese higher education institution as stated in article 25 of Decreto-Lei n.º 66/2018, of August 16, that approves the legal framework for the recognition of academic degrees and higher education diplomas awarded by foreign higher education institutions and point e) of no. 2 of article 4 of Decreto-Lei n.º 60/2018, de August 3rd, with the requirement that any formal procedures established there are completed at the moment of hiring.
3. Preferred conditions
Preference will be given to candidates who demonstrate:
a) Written and spoken proficiency in the Portuguese language;
b) Experience coordinating interventions in school settings, particularly in the following areas: food service management and catering, community nutrition, and public health nutrition;
c) A category B or B1 driving licence and access to a vehicle are required for field work in schools within the municipality of Benavente;
d) Master’s degree in the field of food service management and catering, gastronomic sciences, community nutrition, or public health]
4. Work plan
The functions to be performed include planning and executing various activities related to:
a) Implementing tools and methods to diagnose the food offer in schools involved in the ASAS project and to assess the educational community's perception of that offer;
b) Supporting the design and implementation of tools to identify barriers and facilitators to the use of the school canteen and cafeteria;
c) Collaborating in the development of scripts for co-creation session;
d) Conducting co-creation sessions in a school context;
e) Planning, conducting, and preparing the minutes of meetings held within the scope of the project;
f) Supporting the implementation of food offer solutions to be promoted within the project and implementing tools to assess their acceptance;
g) Producing support materials that allow the intervention model to be replicated at a national level, with a view to increasing adherence to the school food offer;
h) Drafting technical and scientific reports, as well as minutes of working meetings;
i) Supporting the systematisation of results and their dissemination, including the presentation of work at scientific events.
5. Place of work
The work will be developed under the supervision of Professor Elisabete Ramos from the Institute of Public Health of the University of Porto (ISPUP). The fieldwork will take place mainly in Benavente region, specifically in the schools covered by the project, with these local activities being supervised by Dr. Rute Espanhol.
6. Remuneration and Contract Duration
The normal working period is forty hours a week, with a basic monthly salary of €1.499,15. The contract will be for an indefinite period, as long as it does not exceed the duration of the project on February 27, 2027.
7. Selection methods
Selection will be based on curriculum evaluation (CE) and, if deemed necessary by the jury, a selection interview (I) with the top 3 candidates whose score in the curriculum evaluation is equal to or greater than ten points. The final score will be calculated using the following formula: 0,6 x CE + 0,4 x I, on a scale of 0-20 points. If no interview is conducted, the final score will be the same as the CE score.
If none of the candidates demonstrates having the profile indicated for carrying out the work plan, the Selection Committee reserves the right not to allocate the vacancy in the competition.
The criteria for curriculum evaluation are (0 to 20 points):
a) Academic training in Nutrition Sciences or related areas (max. 4 points)
- Postgraduate studies or completion of the first year of a Master’s degree (1 point);
- Master’s degree (2 points);
- Doctoral degree (3 points);
- Additional relevant training (1 point).
b) Professional experience in community nutrition and public health projects involving the target population (max. 6 points)
-Target population: children and adolescents in school settings (2nd and 3rd cycles) (2 points);
- Target population: professionals involved in food preparation and provision, particularly in school settings (2 points);
- Coordination responsibilities and/or demonstrated autonomous work (2 points).
c) Research experience in nutrition and public health or collective catering and food service (max. 4 points)
- Research in nutrition and public health (2 points);
- Research in collective catering and food service (2 points).
d) Capacity to conduct autonomous work in community nutrition and public health projects (max. 6 points)
- Coordination of project planning and implementation (2 points);
- Data collection, processing, and analysis (2 points);
- Dissemination of results (scientific publications, conference presentations, workshops) (2 points).
The criteria for the selection interview, if conducted, will be (0 to 20 points):
a) Attitude (teamwork, conflict management, persuasion skills, presentation, confidence, initiative, autonomy) (max. 5 points)

9. Formalization of applications
The applications should be formalized, obligatorily, via email by April 1, 2026, to the address candidaturas@ispup.up.pt, with the reference “Senior Technician – ASAS Benavente” in the subject, accompanied by the following documents, of mandatory presentation:
a) Curriculum Vitae;
b) Qualification certificate with the final classification obtained and the respective academic degree recognition by a Portuguese higher education institution (if applicable).
The degree recognition must be duly proven until the act of hiring. If the recognition of the degree is under review, should be send proof of the request;
c) Letter of motivation for the position in question, as well as a reference to the availability to start functions;
d) Proof of registration as a full member of the Order of Nutritionists, or alternatively, a sworn statement declaring that such proof will be submitted by the date of the contract signing;
e) Other documents deemed relevant by the candidate.
10. Failure to present the documents identified above in the application will determine the administrative exclusion of the candidates.
11. Selection will be based on Curriculum Evaluation (CE) and eventually complemented by a Professional Interview (I) with the three best-ranked candidates, if the Selection Committee deems it necessary. The respective assessment and weighting criteria for Curriculum Evaluation and any Professional Interview, including the respective grading formula, are set out in the minutes of the Selection Committee's meeting criteria.
12. Failure of candidates to attend the possible interview phase of the selection process is equivalent to withdrawing from the competition, leading to the exclusion from the procedure.
13. If none of the candidates demonstrates having the profile indicated for carrying out the work plan, the Selection Committee reserves the right not to allocate the vacancy in the competition.
14. Form of advertising/notification of results
The final results of the evaluation will be disclosed by sending the minutes via email provided at the time of application. The candidates have a period of 10 working days, counting from the day immediately after the notification, to give their opinion, if they wish, in a prior hearing.
15. ISPUP is free to fill the position or not and may suspend or terminate the process at any time, informing all candidates.
