By order issued by the Director General of the Telecommunications Institute on March 18, 2026, it was approved to open an international call to select one candidate researcher in the scientific scope of the project ALBATROZ - OQC, under the scope of a term contract, with a termination date undetermined, overseen by Portuguese Labour Code. Job description:

• • Development of scientific research activities within the research group “Optical Quantum Communications – Av” from the Instituto de Telecomunicações;
• • Results dissemination through the publication of scientific works in conferences and magazines or journals, as well as participation in the elaboration of presentation and demonstration events to the public;
• • Representation of the Instituto de Telecomunicações and conduction of the project management activities, within the research group of Optical Quantum Communications;
• • Contribute to the development of classical and quantum cryptographic protocols; - Contribute on the development of security proofs for the protocols.

About the position

An international selection process is open for a PhD position within the ALBATROZ project – Altice Labs Advanced Technology on Radio, Optics and Virtualization – under a non-fixed term employment contract governed by the Labor Code. We are looking for a motivated PhD's degree holder for a full-time position, to carry out high-quality research and development in the optical quantum communication group. The ideal candidate will have experience in developing classical and quantum cryptographic protocols, as well as formulating their corresponding security proofs. The candidate will integrate a dynamic and forward-thinking team composed of senior scientists, researchers, and students. He/she is expected to bring own research ideas and skills to tackle ongoing R&D challenges, in close collaboration with our interdisciplinary team and with external scientific and industrial partners.

• • Decree-Law no. 57/2016 of 29th of August, which approved the hiring of doctorate to stimulate scientific and technological employment for all areas of knowledge (RJEC), amended by the Law 57/2017 dated 19th of July, and regulated by Regulatory Decree nr 11-A/2017, dated 29th December
• • Labour Code approved by Law no. 7/2009 of 12 February, under its current Reading.

The workplace shall be at Instituto de Telecomunicações, Polo de Aveiro, Campus Universitário de Santiago, 3810-193 Aveiro.
