A call is open for the allocation of 1 (one) research fellowship for PhD (BIPD), within the Research Project entitled VITAL: Valorização de Recursos Endógenos pela Inovação e Tecnologias Digitais para a Sustentabilidade, funded by Regional Programme for the Centre – Centro2030, taking place at Instituto Coordenador da Investigação (ICI), University of Beira Interior, under the following conditions:

Research Field: 

Mechanical Engineering.

Objectives: 

The objective of this project is to develop thermally efficient packaging through the development of thermal insulation systems using PCMs.

Work plan: 

The work plan for the research grant was designed to support the project's research activities, namely:

i) Development of composites and multilayer panels with high thermal insulation performance.

ii) Evaluation of thermal, mechanical and biodegradability properties. 

iii) Modelling and simulation techniques applied to optimise structural design, ensuring thermal efficiency and reducing energy losses.

iv) Development of experimental studies on packaging applications that preserve the quality of perishable products, promoting sustainability and energy efficiency.

v) Development of experimental studies to assess the thermal performance of packaging through the incorporation of PCMs compatible with the food industry.

vi) Development of a computational model to predict the thermal response of packaging, considering product preservation requirements.

vii) Scientific production in the field.

viii) Dissemination of results.

Work location: 

The work will be developed at Instituto Coordenador da Investigação (ICI) , University of Beira Interior, under the scientific supervision of Doctor Pedro Dinis Gaspar ([email protected]).

Fellowship duration and conditions:

The fellowship will last for 12 months, starting in June 2026. The activity will be carried out on a full-time basis, in accordance with RBIUBI. The fellowship contract may be renewed for periods of 12 months, up to a maximum of 24 months.

Publication/notification of results: 

The partial and final results of the evaluation process will be published in a sorted list, by the final classification obtained, and posted in a visible and public place of the Instituto Coordenador da Investigação (ICI) of the University of Beira Interior. The candidate(s) will be notified of the decision by e-mail. Invitations to the interview will be sent to candidates by email at least 48 hours in advance.
