IMol is a modern, international institute of the Polish Academy of Sciences (the first newly established in 25 years). IMol was founded to conduct scientific research in the fields like molecular biology, chemistry, medicine and pharmacology, biotechnology, bioinformatics, biophysics, and related. Its international and collaborative environment promotes both basic research as well as R&D interactions with the biotechnology and pharma industry.

At the moment, IMol is looking for a candidate for the position of Postdoctoral Researcher in Warsaw, Poland, for the implementation of the project Sonata Bis 12 (UMO-2022/46/E/NZ1/00273), financed by the National Science Center.

Project title: “Bunyaviral strategies to reorganize and exploit cellular translation”

Short description of the project: 

We are interested in studying how bunyaviruses, segmented negative-strand RNA viruses, reorganize and exploit cellular translation during infection. We want to identify which host factors are utilized by viruses for their non-canonical translation strategies and to determine structures and function of the involved virus-host protein complexes. Our ambition is to open new avenues in the RNA virus field and to set the basis for the broad-spectrum antivirals design.

Key responsibilities of the successful candidate will be to explore and characterize, functionally and structurally, complexes involved in viral transcription and translation of viral proteins. We particularly focus on potential complexes formed by orthobunyaviral L protein, nucleoprotein, or viral RNA with host translation regulation factors and/or RNA-binding proteins. We particularly encourage candidates with a strong background in recombinant proteins and structural biology techniques. Prior expertise in RNA virus infection-related projects or mass-spectrometry will be considered a strong asset.

Profile of candidates/requirements:

- PhD degree in molecular biology, structural biology or related fields of life sciences.

- PhD degree obtained not earlier than 2018 (this is a grant requirement – this period can be increased by documented health or maternity-related leaves),

- Good scholarship and hands-on experience in molecular biology

- Experience in protein expression, purification, and binding assays

- Experience in structural biology techniques 

- Experience in RNA virus infection biology projects would be an advantage

- Experience in mass-spectrometry sample preparation and data analysis would be an advantage

- Very good command of English as well as team-work and communication skills.
