C O M P E T I T I O N

for the selection of

1. one executor (m/f) to a collaborative position - I. type - senior assistant, in the scientific field: Technical sciences, scientific field: Geodesy or in the scientific field: Natural sciences, scientific field: Geography, for a certain period of time in duration of 18 months, full-time, at the Chair of Photogrammetry and Remote Surveys, Department of Cartography and Photogrammetry, University of Zagreb – Faculty of Geodesy, to work on a project at HRZZ ALCAR PROJECT.

Applicants in the competition must meet the conditions prescribed by the Law on Higher Education and Scientific Activity (NN 119/22).

MANDATORY CONDITIONS:

1. Completion of an appropriate doctoral study in geodesy and geoinformatics or a doctoral study in geography

ADDITIONAL CRITERIA:

1. readiness for teamwork
2. high level of motivation
3. developed communication skills
4. knowledge of English
5. previous participation in scientific research work, published papers, personal presentations at scientific conferences
6. previous scientific research experience in the field of geodesy, geoinformatics, geography, remote sensing and/or photogrammetry with a special emphasis on the topic of the ALCAR project, i.e. assessment of anthropogenic and/or climatic impacts on the environment
7. knowledge of the programming language Python, R and/or MATLAB
8. previous recognitions, awards, etc. for excellence in studies and research work
9. recommendations from former mentors, professors or associates

DESCRIPTION OF JOBS:

• 18-month position funded by the Croatian Science Foundation IP-2022-10-5711
• research and work on assessing the long-term impact of climatic and anthropogenic influences on the spatial-temporal dynamics of vegetation cover in Croatia using satellite observations within the HRZZ project ALCAR (https://alcar.geof.hr/), research and work on developing digital services for green urban development and climate change adaptation within the ESA project MyGreenYard and similar future projects
• scientific training in the field of geodesy and geoinformatics and/or geography, especially in the field of remote sensing and photogrammetry (scientific stays at other institutions, summer schools, scientific workshops)
• presentation of research results at international scientific conferences and publication of scientific papers in international journals (two or more are expected)
• popular science engagement, participation in the organization of international scientific conferences

MANDATORY DOCUMENTATION:

- proof of the appropriate level of education (copy of diploma or certificate of completed studies), 

- foreign citizens are required to provide proof of knowledge of the Croatian language – advanced level

The University of Zagreb – Faculty of Geodesy reserves the right to cancel the competition or not accept any applications for the competition.

The selection procedure for applicants who best fit the position based on the submitted documentation will be conducted through an online interview using Microsoft Teams/Zoom/Skype (candidates will be informed of the testing schedule via email), and the results of the competition procedure will be published on the official website of the University of Zagreb – Faculty of Geodesy https://www.geof.unizg.hr/natjecaji/.

The employment contract with the selected candidate is signed for 18 months after the approval of the Croatian Science Foundation. Before signing the contract, the selected candidate will have to attach a proof of work experience in the relevant jobs (certificate of the data recorded in database of the Croatian Pension Insurance Institute). If he comes from a foreign institution, the selected candidate, in order to enroll in doctoral studies, will have to obtain a decision on the academic recognition of foreign higher education qualifications issued by the University of Zagreb.

Foreign citizens will have to regulate their stay in the Republic of Croatia in accordance with the Law on Foreigners (Official Gazette 133/20, 114/22 and 151/22).

The competition is open for 30 days from the date of publication of the competition in the "Official Gazette".
