Call for Expressions of Interest for a joint application under the EU Marie Skłodowska-Curie Action Postdoctoral Fellowship scheme – Call: MSCA-PF-2025

The Erasmus School of Social and Behavioural Sciences (ESSB) at the Erasmus University Rotterdam welcomes expressions of interest from prospective Marie Skłodowska-Curie Actions Postdoctoral Fellows (MSCA PFs) looking for the opportunity to come to the Netherlands to develop and execute their own fully-funded, one- to two-year research project at our school.

About the Erasmus School of Social and Behavioural Sciences

ESSB encompasses a wide range of academic disciplines focused on people and society, including public administration (presently ranked #1 worldwide by the Shanghai Ranking), pedagogical sciences, psychology, and sociology. ESSB places great importance on both fundamental, internationally oriented research and societally relevant studies aimed at professionals, policymakers, and the broader community. More information about ESSB's research can be found here.

ESSB provides a stimulating research environment, supported by significant national and international research grants. Prominent guest researchers from both the Netherlands and abroad work at the faculty for short or extended periods. Both the Dutch- and English-taught programs receive high evaluations from students and alumni. The ESSB has more than 4,000 students and over 400 staff members.

Furthermore, ESSB offers its researchers:

  • access to a wide range of skills trainings and career development programmes,
  • a diverse and inclusive culture where varied talents can feel at home and excel,
  • an environment that fosters academic excellence and offers access to world-leading social science researchers,
  • a focus on employee well-being,
  • a state-of-the-art research support infrastructure.

Expressing interest in submitting a MSCA PF proposal

A number of senior academics at ESSB are eager to serve as potential supervisors for MSCA PFs (see list below).

Potential candidates who meet the MSCA PF eligibility criteria are invited to express their interest in working with one of these supervisors to develop and submit a proposal. These include:

  • having successfully defended your PhD by the submission deadline,
  • possessing a maximum of 8 years research experience since your PhD,
  • not having resided in the Netherlands for more than 12 months during the last three years.

Candidates must be willing to move to the Netherlands for the entire fellowship period and take the lead on developing the MSCA PF submission in collaboration with their proposed supervisor.

The MSCA PF emphasises career development, mobility, and two-way transfer of knowledge between the candidate and the host institute. Therefore, a strong alignment between the supervisor’s expertise and the candidate’s profile, project, and desired career trajectory is crucial.

The document can be sent to ESSB Grants Advisor Andrew Sorensen (sorensen@essb.eur.nl) by 14 April 2025. Please include in the subject heading “MSCA Postdoctoral Fellowship Expression of Interest”.

Please note that:

  • this concerns an expression of interest to work with an ESSB supervisor to submit a MSCA PF proposal. Supervisors will review the expressions of interest and contact potential candidates with whom they wish to pursue a submission.
  • a decision by a potential supervisor to work with a candidate on a MSCA PF does not constitute a job offer.
