The Polymer Reaction Design (PRD) group, lead by Prof Tanja Junkers, is seeking suitable candidates for the MCSA postdoctoral fellowship scheme (outgoing). Thus, candidates must hold a PhD and be eligible to apply for the outgoing scheme of the program (European citizens). Selected candidates will be invited to develop a joint research proposal to apply this year for a fellowship.

The PRD group is located in the south east of Melbourne, Australia, on the main campus of Monash University, ranked #37 in the world (QS ranking) and part of the School of Chemistry. The group is active in research around polymer chemistry, with specific emphasis on continuous flow chemistry, reaction automation, digitalization of chemical research a machine-learning methods in chemical synthesis.

For the project, we are looking specifically for researchers who want to work at the interface of polymer synthesis and robotics, aiming to push the boundaries in synthesis automation. Candidates can either come from the side of robotics and engineering or from the side of polymer chemistry. Projects can vary from high-throughput experimentation coupled to machine-learning evaluation of data over database design to use of robotics in synthesis of materials and their characterization. The lab of the PRD group possesses several robots for this purpose, from liquid handlers to robot arms for human-like handling of reagents.

Once suitable candidates are identified, we will build specific projects fitting the candidate's background for submission in the upcoming MSCA-PF round. As part of this process, we will also identify suitable European host institutions for the required return phase of the scholarships. We have a broad network of existing collaborators to facilitate this process.

For the application, we expect an academic CV with publication list, as well as a brief motivation as to why the candidate is interested in the aforementioned research field and how their experience matches the expectations.
