La Rochelle University is recruiting a Research Engineer to work on the Participations, Mediation and Citizen Transition Chair on a two-year fixed-term contract as part of the La Rochelle Territoire Zero Carbone project.

In a higher education and research landscape that has been profoundly reshaped for more than a decade, La Rochelle Université has chosen to structure its research around a thematic by positioning its scientific and academic strengths on societal and environmental issues. This approach has led to the creation of a teaching and research institute called the LUDI Institute, SmUCS in English (Smart Urban Coastal sustainability), operational since the 1st September 2021.

Bringing together all the laboratories, all the PhD students and most of the institution's masters programmes. This institute aims to address the many scientific issues raised by the anthropisation of the coastal area by facilitating decompartmentalised and interdisciplinary approaches, based on a proactive policy of innovation and dissemination of results, without forgetting the fundamental principles of ethics and scientific integrity.

The creation of the LUDI Institute is surrounded by two other important projects, namely the EU-CONEXUS European university, a network of European partner universities sharing a common speciality, and the CampusInnov site initiative, intended to establish a culture of innovation in both training and research.

Project background

The Participation, Mediation and Citizen Transition Chair is attached to the La Rochelle Territoire Zéro Carbone (LRTZC) project and to La Rochelle University. The Chair works on the co-production of knowledge, training and the dissemination of knowledge around the design, analysis of uses and evaluation of participatory systems. It also conducts research into the ways in which citizens are involved in transition processes, and into mediation and the resolution of territorial conflicts. Her work focuses in particular on the way in which these citizen initiatives intersect, or even compete, to map out adaptation trajectories and reconfigure territorial projects.

The candidate will be supported by the Chair's teams, its university members and its local partners, in carrying out his/her duties. The candidate will be hosted at the UMR LIENSs, a unit bringing together researchers from the life sciences, earth sciences and social sciences to study the coastline and its socio-environmental dynamics.

Job description

The position of Research and Development Manager for the Chair in Participation, Mediation and Citizen Transition involves a number of tasks.

Structuring and running the Participations, Mediation and Citizen Transition Chair: meeting the Chair's partners to ensure its development, updating the website, organising seminars and meetings between stakeholders and researchers, running the scientific policy, ensuring administrative follow-up and external promotion.

Providing scientific support for research projects involving researchers from the Participation, Mediation and Citizen Transition Chair and local stakeholders (in particular, the Life Maraisilience and Observatoire de Brouage projects): field surveys, helping to write reports, supervising trainees, etc.

To conduct and promote research into the issues of citizen participation, in all its forms, in the processes of ecological transition. The candidate will be able to pursue and deepen previous research and launch a new survey (the link with La Rochelle and local research will be strongly favoured).
