Institut Curie is a world-class multidisciplinary cancer research center linked to a hospital. The institute presents a vibrant research environment with access to numerous facilities including an advanced imaging platform, high-throughput next generation sequencing platform, proteomics and mass spectrometry, and bioinformatics.


Laboratory:

You will work in a dynamic research environment combining interdisciplinary approaches including genomics (ChIP-seq, Hi-C), proteomics and bioinformatics to study the evolution of centromeres and genome organisation in insects as model system. Our group consists of 7 enthusiastic and dedicated PhD students, researchers and engineers with expertise in both experimental and bioinformatic analyses. Among other funding sources, we were also awarded an ERC Starting and Consolidator grant for the research in our lab.


Project:

You will develop and lead an exciting project exploring the evolutionary plasticity and regulation of centromeres. In particular, the project aims to uncover the organization of unconventional centromeric organisation termed holocentromere (centromeric activity is distributed along the entire chromosomal length) and the diversity of kinetochore structures across insect species including Lepidoptera (butterflies and moths), many of which have lost the otherwise essential centromeric marker protein CENP-A. The work will combine genomic approaches, microscopy, and phylogenetic analyses, and will be carried out in collaboration with several groups providing access to a wide range of insect models.

If you have some experiences with computational data analyses will be a plus but is not absolutely required. Every project in the lab involves both computational and experimental approaches and people are encouraged to develop skills in both areas.
