Project Description

The aim of the project is to develop a pH-responsive zeolite–bisphosphonate complex that will serve as the basis for the fabrication of an intelligent bone implant for the treatment of osteoporotic fractures.
To enhance osteogenesis, Ca²⁺ and Mg²⁺ ions will be introduced into the zeolite structure through ion-exchange (replacing Na⁺ ions with Ca²⁺ and Mg²⁺). These ions promote osteoblast adhesion and bone-forming activity.
Treatment of large osteoporotic fractures often requires the implantation of a bone substitute to accelerate bone regeneration. Therefore, developing a bone implant based on a pH-sensitive zeolite–bisphosphonate complex will both promote bone regeneration and inhibit bone resorption by osteoclasts at the implantation site.
After implantation, the intelligent biomaterial will be exposed to acidic conditions (pH ~4.0–4.5) associated with osteoclast-mediated bone resorption, which will trigger bisphosphonate release into the bone environment and inhibit osteoclast activity.

Requirements

  • 1. Ph.D. degree obtained:
    • • in medical, pharmaceutical, biological, or related sciences,
    • • in the year of employment in the project or within 7 years before January 1 of that year (for multiple Ph.D. holders, the reference date is that of the first Ph.D.).
    • • This period may be extended by documented long-term (over 90 days) medical or rehabilitation leave due to incapacity for work, and by parental leave periods under the Labour Code. For women, 18 months per child born or adopted may also be added if more advantageous.
