1.Position identification

Title of post : Postdoc in Molecular Plant Biology
Type of contract : Fix-term
Category (A,B or C) : A
Contract/project period : 12 month Expected date of employment : April 13, 2026
Proportion of work : 100%
Workplace : UPR2357 - IBMP
Desired level of education : PhD
Experience required : none, the position is aimed at scientist without prior postdoc experience
Contact(s) for information on the position (identity, position, e-mail address, telephone) :
Stefan Grob - Research engineer - stefan.grob@cnrs.fr - +33(0)367155364
Date of publication : March 9, 2026
Closing date for the receipt of applications : April 3rd, 2026

2. Research project or operation
As sessile organisms, plants are plainly exposed to their environment. Adaptation to this environment often encompasses a fine-tuned transcriptional response that can be elicited by changes in chromatin architecture and/or the epigenetic landscape. We are interested in specific changes of the epigenome in response to the environment as well as the chromatin factors that initiate epigenomic responses. This project is twofold: we will develop new molecular tools to better understand chromatin composition with a focus on single locus chromatin profiling. In parallel, we will study how the epigenomic landscape varies during the year and whether these changes may provide cues on how plant adapt to their environment.

3. Activities

Description of the research activities :
We will employ a wide range of genomic, molecular biology, and bioinformatics tools. The project has two major axes. The first axis focuses on the establishment of a novel reverse-ChIP technology aiming at identifying proteins that bind to specific genomic regions. In the second axis, we will perform epigenomic profiling experiments, including DNA methylation profiling, sRNA-sequencing and Hi-C experiments using plant tissue collected over the seasons of the year. Given the large amount of data collected, a second emphasis of this project will be on training the successful applicant in bioinformatics tools and their subsequent execution.

4. Skills
Qualifications/knowledge :
We are looking for a highly motivated, curious individual with an excellent collaborative spirit and solid experience in functional genomics. The candidate has strong knowledge of molecular biology and a good understanding of plant chromatin biology/epigenetics. Knowledge of genetics will be an advantage.

Operational skills/expertise :
Knowledge of classical molecular biology techniques such as PCR, RT-qPCR, and cloning, as well as biochemical techniques such as Western blotting and immunoprecipitation. Expertise in CRISPR-based approaches would be an advantage. Previous experience in bioinformatic data analysis and coding would be a plus.

Personal qualities :
Willingness to fully commit to a project. Critical intellectual engagement as well as the motivation to carry out demanding hands-on experimental work are expected.

Environment and context of work

Presentation of the laboratory/unity :
We are offering a 12-month fixed-term postdoctoral position (M/F) within the "Nuclear Defense and 3D Genome
Folding" team, led by Stefan Grob at the Institute of Plant Molecular Biology (IBMP) in Strasbourg.
The IBMP hosts teams of research excellence, provides a wide range of cutting-edge technological platforms to support this project, and offers a friendly and stimulating work environment. In our teams, we are committed to fostering an inclusive and motivating atmosphere, where initiative, intellectual contribution, and technical expertise are particularly valued.

Hierarchical relationship :
Supervision of interns and Master students is encouraged

Special conditions of practice:
The position may involve occasional travel for scientific conferences or collaborations. Standard laboratory risks are present, including handling chemicals and biological agents, working in temperature-controlled environments, and prolonged periods of computer work.

To apply, please send your CV, cover letter and diploma to : Stefan Grob (stefan.grob@cnrs.fr)
