The Assistant Professor will participate in the implementation of a research project focused on developing a microfluidic model of the microbiota-gut-brain axis (MGBA-on-chip). Their responsibilities will include designing and testing the microplatform, including optimization of protocols for culturing intestinal epithelial cells and differentiating human induced pluripotent stem cells (hiPSCs) into functional neurons. The postdoc will be responsible for establishing stable co-cultures of intestinal and neuronal cells, as well as integrating and biologically validating the MGBA-on-chip system (e.g., using molecular techniques). Additional duties include data analysis and interpretation, preparing reports, writing scientific articles, and active participation in conferences. The candidate is also expected to support partial supervision of a PhD student, including mentoring and assisting in the development of research skills.

Skills/Qualifications

Candidates are required to have:

  • • PhD or equivalent degree in natural sciences such as biology, biotechnology, biomedical engineering, or related fields.
  • • Extensive experience in cell culture techniques, including work with induced pluripotent stem cells (iPSCs) or mesenchymal stem cells (MSCs) and cell differentiation processes; experience with neuronal cells is a strong advantage.
  • • Proven knowledge of microscopy and molecular biology techniques (e.g., immunostaining, PCR, RT-qPCR).
  • • Publication record in the fields of cell biology, neurobiology, organ-on-chip technology, or biosensors is a significant asset.
  • • Basic knowledge of Organ-on-Chip technology and its potential applications in preclinical research and systems biology.
  • • Proficiency in analyzing and interpreting experimental data with a focus on drawing biologically meaningful conclusions.
  • • Experience in clean-room laboratory work is an advantage.
  • • High precision and manual dexterity in working with delicate biological materials and laboratory equipment.
  • • Excellent communication and organizational skills, including the ability to present research results in both oral and written form.
  • • Fluency in spoken and written English to independently work with scientific literature, write publications, and actively participate in international scientific events.
