By order issued by the Director General of the Telecommunications Institute on January 7, 2026, it was approved to open an international call to select one researcher with a master’s degree in the scientific the scope of the approved project CISGUARD with Nr. 21022, under the scope of a term contract, with a termination date undetermined, overseen by the Portuguese Labour Code, in view of the execution of the following tasks:

• • Development of a complete radar system, with a strong focus on the design and implementation of the RF front-end. This work will cover the entire electronic chain, from signal generation and conditioning, amplification, reception and frequency conversion, to the development and integration of the antennas. The activities will include the design of low-cost, low-power architectures, as well as experimental validation and hardware optimization for operation in real-world scenarios, ensuring robustness, portability, and performance aligned with the intended applications. In parallel, the selected candidate will also be responsible for the development of the radar signal processing chain, including the extraction of relevant information from the received signals and the implementation of algorithms for real-time analysis. Building on this foundation, an artificial intelligence system will be developed for automatic detection and classification, enabling reliable and autonomous identification of targets of interest. The tight integration of hardware, signal processing, and artificial intelligence will allow the demonstration of a complete, coherent, and scalable solution within the scope of the project.

About the position: We are looking for a motivated and experienced candidates with an MSc degree for a full-time position, to carry out high-quality research and development in Radar systems. Topics include the entire electronic chain, from signal generation and conditioning, amplification, reception and frequency conversion, to the development and integration of the antennas. The candidate must have Lab experience, and expertise required to design and supervise the development of functional prototypes, at least up to TRL 4. The candidate will integrate a dynamic and forward-thinking team composed of senior scientists, researchers, and students. He/she is expected to bring own research ideas and skills to tackle ongoing R&D challenges, in close collaboration with our interdisciplinary team and with external scientific and industrial partners. Our Group publishes in high quality scientific journals and high-quality conferences in Radar systems and is seeking a researcher that can work for this goal, apply for competitive funding in the framework of projects or contracts.

Applicable Legislation: Labour Code, approved by Law no. 7/2009, of 12 February, in its current reading.

Skills/Qualifications

You have a profound knowledge of Radar Systems, particularly from signal generation and conditioning, amplification, reception and frequency conversion, to the development and integration of the antennas. You have a good track record of publications of applied research in high-impact journals and Conferences. You have a proficient level of comprehension, written and oral skills in English.

Specific Requirements

Any national, foreign and stateless candidate(s) holding a master’s degree in electronic engineering and Telecommunications or similar scientific area, with a minimum average of 15 points and mastery of the Portuguese Language. In case the degree has been awarded by a foreign higher education institution, the degree must comply with the provisions of Decree-Law no. 341/2007 of 12th of October, and all formalities established therein must be fulfilled, by the selected candidate, until the date of signature of the contract.
