The Era Chair Foodomics is offering an exciting Postdoc research position for highly motivated candidates to join a multidisciplinary and international research team lead by prof. Dr. Urška Vrhovšek. The work will aim mainly to conduct research in the field of mass spectrometry applied to the study of food and nutritional biomarkers.


It will involve conducting instrumental analysis and data analysis from samples. The successful candidate will be expected to develop and apply LC-MS based methods and GC-MS for the identification and quantification of small molecules in food and matrices such as plasma, urine and feces.


This is a unique opportunity for candidates to contribute to cutting-edge research while collaborating with leading experts across Europe and beyond

Skills/Qualifications

Research activities aimed at enhancing the quality, technological and nutritional value of agri-food products through metabolomics approaches. Development of new analytical methods for:

  • • Fingerprinting analysis (measuring all detectable analytes to identify differences),
  • • Targeted analysis (quantification of a defined set of analytes),
  • • Valorization of food production chains, including studies on metabolomics,
  • • Manage scientific or developmental areas of general interest to the project.
  • • Record data and keep detailed and accurate records, perform the quality control of the data produced, interpret the fragmentation trees and annotate the metabolites.
  • • Transfer the data to open repositories selected for the Projects, and to produce regular written reports on the results.
  • • Data elaboration and interpretation
  • Writing the scientific manuscripts and projects.

Specific Requirements

The program is open to candidates with a PhD in Metabolomics, Food Chemistry, Biochemistry, Chemistry, Nutrition or a related discipline. Candidates should demonstrate a strong interest in conducting collaborative research. One of the requirements is also that candidates have not previously been employed at the University of Ljubljana.
