Post-Doctoral Researcher

at the Center for Development of Gene Therapies TREAT-EXP

in the project FENG.02.01-IP.05-M038/25, TREAT-EXP: Development of therapeutic strategies for human genetic diseases caused by nucleotide repeat expansions.

The FENG.02.01-IP.05-M038/25 project is carried out within the 2.1 MAB FENG call 2/2025 programme of the Foundation for Polish Science co-financed by the European Union under the European Funds for Smart Economy 2021-2027 (FENG).

A post-doctoral researcher position in a research group at the newly established Center for the Development of Gene Therapies at Adam Mickiewicz University.

We are seeking a candidate interested in research in the following areas: understanding the molecular pathomechanisms of human diseases caused by nucleotide repeat expansions, generating transgenic cell models and iPS models, including genetic modification using CRISPR-Cas technology, imaging cells using confocal and superresolution microscopy, identifying biomarkers of studied diseases, and developing new therapeutic small-molecules and antisense oligonucleotides targeting mutated RNA molecules containing expanded repeats.

Anticipated job starting date: April 20, 2026

Fixed-term contract for 12 months, with the possibility of extension until December 31, 2029,

Monthly salary: PLN 13 866 gross

Skills/Qualifications

The competition is open to individuals who meet the requirements specified in Article 113 of the Law on Higher Education and Science of 20 July 2018 (Journal of Laws of 2024, item 1571, Article 113 as amended) and who meet the following requirements:

1. 1. PhD in biological, chemical, medical, or related sciences, obtained within the last 5 years. The 5-year period is counted from the year of obtaining the doctoral degree – the beginning of this period is determined by the year of obtaining the degree, and the end is determined by the year preceding the deadline for submitting applications to the competition. The 5-year period may be extended to include any documented breaks in research work occurring after the date of obtaining the degree, with breaks lasting no less than 6 months being taken into account. Documented breaks in work include, among others, unpaid leave, parental leave, breaks caused by long-term illness, work in the R&D sector without participation in research, work in other sectors of the economy, etc. For women who have given birth or adopted a child, the 5-year period is extended by 1 year for each child, regardless of the date of birth or adoption, even if the period of documented leave or breaks in work related to this was shorter;

3. 2. Excellent scientific achievements documented by publications in renowned international scientific journals in the field of animal molecular genetics;
4. 
   
5. 3. Experience in basic and advanced molecular and cellular biology techniques, such as qPCR, Western blot, whole-genome sequencing (e.g., RNA-seq), and flow cytometry;
6. 
   
7. 4. Experience in working with mammalian cell cultures, including iPSC-derived cells and/or neuronal models;
8. 
   
9. 5. Experience in developing cell models, cytotoxicity tests and analysing drug effects on cell physiology is preferred;
10. 
    
11. 6. Experience in advanced microscopy tools (e.g., confocal, superresolution microscopy) is preferred;

13. 7. Fluency in English, both written and spoken
