Info about the project: The currently available insecticide toolkit, which has proven the cornerstone of the efforts to control vector borne diseases, lacks diversity and its efficiency is threatened by the emergence of resistance. The identification of new active ingredients that have mosquitocidal properties and are not affected by commonly selected resistance mechanisms will enrich our toolkit, and significantly enhance our ability to control vector borne diseases. Compounds of natural origin are a promising source of active ingredients with diverse structures and mode of actions. NECTAR project aim to exploit the Natural Product libraries and evaluate the efficacy of the identified compounds in the presence of the most prevalent resistance mechanisms.

Job Description: The successful applicant will mainly focus on the in vivo validation of genes with potential “insecticide target” score using the binary Gal4-UAS system through RNAi mediated knock-down work. He/she will also participate in writing progress reports and publications. The applicant should be accordingly adaptable and able to work with a range of people in a multicultural environment. Excellent knowledge of English is required.

• • Working experience with insects, mainly Anopheles gambiae mosquitos
