Université Gustave Eiffel is looking for a candidate to apply for a Postdoctoral Fellowship in the framework of the Marie-Sklodowska Curie Programme 2025.

The Candidate and Université Gustave Eiffel's supervisor will apply together to develop the following research project : Electrochemical biosensing for health and the environment

1. Summary

We have identified 3 universities (Univ Gustave Eiffel, France, Univ Aveiro, Portugal, and Univ Edinburgh, UK) with very strong common interests in advanced biosensor research. Our project will be based on a dynamic new collaboration in this area between these Universities, on interdisciplinary studies in bio-engineering and electrochemistry.

It will contribute to the ongoing growth of biomedical research base in Europe - with a particular emphasis on the development of innovative biomedical sensing technologies, driving advances in personalised healthcare including improved safety and efficacy in disease management and diagnostic processes. The near-term aim of the collaboration is to develop a joint Horizon Europe funding proposal in the Pillar 2 cluster area of "Health".

We have identified the preliminary areas of interest as electrochemical biosensors for lactate, pH, and oxygen, or implantable biocompatible sensors, including specific sensor packaging and optimised miniature reference electrodes.

A particularly promising synergy was identified in the application of advanced nanomaterials (diamond, Laser Induced Graphene, porous conductive materials...) in such bio-sensors, together with the material deposition and characterization. Moreover, novel applications in the field of agri-food or environment (air/soil/water quality) could emerge from these initial biomedical solutions and widen the scope of the project.

The post-doc will be in charge of the developement of innovative biosensors inclunding design, manufacturing micro-technology, extensive characterisation. The targeted applications will be assessed with external partners from hospitals or bio-engineering labs.

2. Planned secondments

Secondments with Grenoble Institute of Neuroscience is envisaged. Other secondments can be proposed by the candidate.
