POSITION

We are looking for a talented and highly motivated Postdoctoral Researcher to join our team and contribute to an ambitious project focused on understanding and reversing structural metabolism changes in photoreceptors during retinal degeneration.

The successful candidate will work within the Visual and Retinal Neuroprotection research group, and contribute to cutting-edge research in retinal science, investigating metabolic neurodegeneration mechanisms in the retina, and developing bioengineering strategies to interfere with these mechanisms at multiple timepoints.

We welcome applications from motivated postdoctoral researchers who wish to apply for competitive fellowships (e.g., MSCA, EMBO, Swiss National Science Foundation, HFSP). The research project is fully supported by the PI and institution, research experimental funding is secured, and we are happy to assist the candidate in crafting a strong grant application.

We encourage interested researchers to apply as early as possible ahead of the 2025 summer fellowship deadlines, with the position expected to start approximately six months thereafter. Candidates who are scheduled to defend their PhD thesis in the interim period are also welcome to apply.

RESEARCH ENVIRONMENT

The University of Lausanne is a leading Swiss institution recognized for its excellence in health sciences and fundamental biology. The Department of Ophthalmology is located at the Jules-Gonin Eye Hospital, a center of excellence in ophthalmic surgery and neuroscience of blindness situated in the historic city center of Lausanne, and hosts a diverse research community of basic scientists and clinical researchers, in close collaboration with the lemanic neuroscience community.

The Visual and Retinal Neuroprotection Lab makes uses of advanced genomic and metabolomic technologies to investigate neurodegeneration in both 3D in-vitro and in-vivo experimental models, with the aim of developing innovative diagnostic tools and therapeutic strategies across multiple levels of the visual system.

REQUIREMENTS

• A PhD in Molecular Science, Neuroscience, Biotechnologies or equivalent.
• Outstanding research achievements in a fundamental or translational biology research project.
• Capability of working independantly with the goal of achieving outstanding results.
• Capability of working with rodents models, previous behavioral or electrophysiology experience is a plus.
• English proficiency, good communication and interpersonal skills

RESPONSIBILITIES

• Conduct molecular and omics studies of photoreceptor degeneration signaling pathways.
• Perform functional analysis of therapeutic rescues using genetic and biochemical approaches, including electrophysiology and functional visual testing experiments.
• Apply advanced bioengineering tools, including genetically-encoded pharmacology in animal and in-vitro 3D models.
• Design and execute experiments aimed at testing and optimizing delivery of genetically-encoded tools.
• Coordinate and supervise graduate and undergraduate students in the lab.
• Collaborate closely with research partners and technology platforms
