Laboratory description:
The Marchés, Institutions, Libertés laboratory (MIL- Équipe d'Accueil - EA7382) is a dynamic and friendly team that federates all legal research activities carried out within the Faculty of Law of Université Paris-Est Créteil. The MIL laboratory's mission is to carry out scientific research, studies and training on all issues relating to all branches of law: private law, public law and legal history. This work can be carried out from a multi-disciplinary perspective, integrating the specific issues of markets, institutions and freedoms.
Project summary:
The scientific project of this post-doctorate has the specificity of seeking to establish a cartography of professions impacted by AI at the university (and beyond). The aim of this ‘Work and AI’ postdoctorate is to gain a better understanding of the uses of AI and gAI (Artificial Intelligence and Generative Artificial Intelligence), and to reflect on its local, national and European regulation. This project is original for four reasons:
- because its subject - AI, and even more so gAI - is highly innovative and promising,
- because its perspective is focused, while opening the door to sectoral comparisons (within the public service, then on a wider scale) and international comparisons (opening the door to comparisons with local, national and European, international levels).
- because it offers both a pragmatic and theoretical point of view, enabling the post-doctoral student to communicate with both researchers and administrative staff at the university,
- because it will contribute to knowledge of the law and sociology of work. In essence, the postdoctoral position will be interdisciplinary in nature, involving back-and-forth work between law and sociology, as well as contact with members of the IAG4UPEC team, which brings together 5 disciplines
(https://iag4upec.hypotheses.org/).
Main tasks and activities:
The post-doctoral researcher's main task will be to conduct research into the (legal and sociological) use of AI and gIA by UPEC staff, teachers and students. This objective will be pursued using a methodology based both on field observation (qualitative, not quantitative) with a questionnaire, and on classic theoretical research. Our aim is to enrich law through contact with other disciplines. This approach is commonplace in the humanities and social
sciences. In law, it remains relatively uncommon, even if we have already experimented with it in the past (ANR CEPASSOC project led by C. Marzo, https://cepassoc.hypotheses.org/). This project is based on the confrontation of an empirical study and a theoretical analysis of a law and its foundations. This movement between theory and technical and pragmatic analysis will provide useful insights for the theoreticians and practitioners of the IAG4UPEC project.
The scientific approach will be multi-disciplinary, in the sense that interactions with the various team members should lead to mutual enrichment by enabling the transfer of technologies and methodologies. It should be added that an underlying objective is the use of AI for research, raising the question of the renewal of social science research methodologies by AI and gAI. The post-doctoral researcher will mainly be involved in researching and writing scientific reports and articles on the subject. S/he will also participate in internal and international conferences and organize scientific events in Créteil and Paris: a series of seminars/webinars (4) and conferences (2).The post-doctoral fellow's commitment to the IAG4UPEC scientific project is both internal and external to the university:
- Internally, it envisages both practical and academic collaboration: exchanges with trade unions on the one hand, and with administrative staff and, of course, teaching researchers on the other, should enable synergies.
- Outside the university, it opens up to society through dissemination of open science and national and international collaborations.
