We invite applications for a 24-month postdoctoral research position within the framework of the ERASME program, which supports socially engaged science. The project focuses on improving mobility, autonomy, and rehabilitation outcomes for individuals with motor impairments, particularly post-stroke patients and elderly individuals, by integrating wearable robotics and advanced artificial intelligence methods.

The goal is to develop an intelligent and accessible system combining wearable sensors (IMUs and FSRs) and deep learning algorithms to perform real-time classification of walking modes, including critical transitions such as walking upstairs or navigating slopes. This real-time classification enables adaptive control of a robotic orthosis, providing personalized assistance based on the user's gait, thereby enhancing natural movement and rehabilitation effectiveness. The project is distinguished by its interdisciplinary and innovative approach, integrating biomechanics, AI, and robotics. Key technological elements include miniaturized, low-power sensors, an adaptive robotic orthosis, and advanced neural networks (CNNs, LSTMs, Transformers), with a strong focus on uncertainty quantification and interpretability.

Expected impacts are multiple: clinically, the project aims to improve functional mobility and reduce fall risks; scientifically, it will advance time-series classification and human-robot interaction; economically, it seeks to lower rehabilitation costs through personalized, efficient solutions; and environmentally, it promotes sustainable, reusable technologies that enable home-based rehabilitation.

The research will be conducted at the LISSI laboratory (UPEC), in the SIRIUS team, which has recognized expertise in wearable robotic systems and human-in-the-loop control for assistive technologies. The team collaborates closely with clinical partners, including CHU Henri Mondor and CHU de Bastia. The laboratory is equipped with all necessary infrastructure: wearable sensors, robotic orthoses, high-performance computing resources (GPU servers), and software environments (TensorFlow, PyTorch).

This project is fully aligned with the ERASME program’s mission to foster well-being, inclusion, sustainability, and citizen engagement. It encourages participatory research by involving patients, clinicians, and caregivers in the design and evaluation process and promotes open science and responsible innovation in AI and robotics for healthcare.
